Superman’s Dad Showed Us the Way July 27, 2010

For me, the most memorable part of the movie Superman, is the very beginning when, baby Kal-El (Superman) was placed into that crazy little capsule and sent billions of miles away to planet Earth just prior to the destruction of his home planet Krypton. During his trip, his fathers recorded instruction played continuously, teaching Superman everything he needed to know, including, who he was, and from whence he came. And this education guided him throughout his life.

It'd be nice if we were all Superman, and our wise and noble fathers made a killer audio for us to listen to during the commutes of our lives. Unfortunately, that's not the case. However, if you're interested in the next best thing, read on.

A few days ago I posted an article introducing my Basic System for Success. Then yesterday, I posted the first of the six part system. Today's show is about part two of that system.

For the last 12+ years, I have lived my life by the following wisdom…

FIND OUT WHAT THE MASSES ARE DOING, AND RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION!

Think about what the masses do every day when they drive to work. The masses listen to either music, the news or talk radio. If you want to live a successful life, you MUST run as fast as you can in an opposite direction. Instead of having your car be a capsule for current events, or capsule of negativity, or even a capsule of filthy lyrics, why not turn it into a University on Wheels?

If you have been following along with my videos, you've learned already that one of the major factors in our success or failure is our philosophy, or what we know and believe to be true. Most of us think we know how to be successful, but we don't, and it's evident in the fact that, in America at least, somewhere between 3% and 5% of the total population will be able to retire independently wealthy. In other words, 95% of us don't know what we're talkin' about, and we don't know what we're doing.

I digress. So, we think we know, but we don't. That's precisely why we read the books and listen to the audios. What we are doing is rebuilding our belief system and our own personal philosophy, with the hope of obtaining a belief system that is conducive to success. And listening to these educational, positive, motivational and inspirational audios every day is major part of building a success philosophy.

For those of you who have jobs, you have time built-in to your day for reprogramming your mind… your commute! If you're commute to work is 30 minutes each way, that's at least 5 hours per week of working on your mind. That's 260 hours of education and motivation per year. That's BANANAS! You do that for a handful of years, and you will be astonished by what happens to your attitude, your outlook and your life. You just can't take in that much positive information and not be positively effected. My dad used to say, “Son, you walk around dog poop long enough, you're bound to step in it.” And the converse is true. If you hang out with positive information, it will certainly leave it's positive mark on you.

For those of you who work from home, like me, you've got to figure out a way to systematize your listening efforts. Here's what I did. Every morning when I woke up, on my way to the restroom, I would turn on my waterproof CD player hanging in the shower, which was already loaded with one of my favorite motivational CD's. Then, I would shower, shave, brush my teeth, primp in front of the mirror and get dressed, and by that time, I had listened to entire CD. And I did it every day until I had attracted a very respectable passive six figure income. And, I'm still doing it today, though I have upgraded my technology a bit. Now I rock out to my gurus on my iPhone docked on some speakers. But nonetheless, you get the concept.

So to recap…

  • Step one in the Basic System for Success: Read 10 Pages a Day of a Good Book.

  • Step two in the Basic System for Success: Listen to One Educational/Motivational CD (or about 45 minutes) Every Day.

And, tomorrow, I'll be discussing Step 3.  But before I go, I want to leave you with some of my favorite “milk before meat” audios that will make a big difference in your life.

    Chris,

I am with you on listening to personal development audios. Programming is everything and thoughts become things. Thanks for your list of audio suggestions.

HOWEVER, when you do listen to music, what type of music would you consider edifying and also a vehicle for personal development? I am a songwriter and want to contribute to helping others grow in this way.

    Best,
    Jason Leong

I would say I listen to country and Jack Johnson-ish stuff. Jack is one of the few main stream artist who has created music with a positive message that is not the cheesiest thing you've ever heard. CSH

  • http://www.cshughes.com C.S. Hughes

Oh yeah. Jeff! I need to add Jeff Olson to the list! CSH

  • Andrew Kallikounis

Amen! Its amazing what you pick up just changing what you listen to in the car. I've been listening to good audios in my car for the last 7 months. Jim Rohn, Jeff Olson, Bob Proctor and a few more. Its showing in my everyday language now. I don't even get upset at “challenged drivers” anymore. I used to say “who taught these people how to drive?” Now I just say “I wouldn't take that class”!

Great message. I listen whenever I'm in the car and look forward to driving cross country just so I can listen for hours on end!

You're right about Jeff Olsen. The Slight Edge is a must to add to your list, and if you are in MLM then Eric Worre's Go Pro is awesome!

    So much good stuff!

  • Navetta

    Awesome!

  • LORETTA RAGAN

Loretta, that was great!!! Can't wait for the next show. Listening to you each day gets me off to an even better day than usual, and all my days are great so that says a lot. Thanks Mr. C S Hughes.
PS, I have been sharing your site with all my friends, family & nieghbors. Thanks again. :-)

Thanks for the reminder Mark. I think I'll go add Jeff Olson now. CSH

Mr. Hughes, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this daily inspiration. As I was listening and reading the other day when you talking about reading, I wondered what books to read and then you listed some. Today, I was wondering what more CD's to listen to and you listed some. I have the Slight Edge in my car and Power Training by Jeff Olsen and Building your business with Jim Rohn. Thank you again. It is an awesome way to start my day. Have a great one yourself.

  • Rena Moretti

Hi Chris, great stuff. Really enjoying this. I'm really trying to transform myself and listening in the car is crucial. It keeps me upbeat and keeps my negative mind busy listening to positive information. So, i COULD NOT agree with you MORE… Thank you so much… Not sure how to post these on fb…

  • Judy

I am really enjoying your wisdom. You are putting ideas together in a way that makes sense. By the way, I live in Kamas so know how interesting these storms can be. Glad the fire didn't take off.

  • FREEDOMFIGHTER25

MR. HUGHES… WILL YOU BE MAKING C.D.'S ANYTIME SOON AND IF SO HOW CAN I GET MY HANDS ON THEM CAUSE I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU AS MY MENTOR ON WHEELS(UNIVERSITY), NOT ONLY ON HERE… THANKS- JOSH JOHNSON

  • Isabel Ward

Hi Mr. Hughes. I can relate to your suggestion of turning my vehicle into a “University on wheels” because that is exactly what I have done since starting my network marketing business three short months ago! I have yet to take a shower with Jim Rohn, but he is always with me when I'm on the road! I recently finished reading Jeff Olson's The Slight Edge and I was motivated so much that he also goes with me on the road. Some of my family members are getting inspired too because they realize we have the power to realize our full potential and not get sidetracked by all the crazy-makers in the world! Thanks for your list of incredible motivators.

Josh, yes I will have a personal development CD set coming out in the next 6-9 months. For now, I am focusing on gifting away as much as I can. The CDs will be supplemental to what is being learned here.

I met Les Brown a few years ago. I learned two more things from meeting him. He’s shorter than I thought. He’s more wonderful than I imagined and I still vibrate from his hug. In the late 80′s, his PBS series quite possibly saved my life. I still have my personal VHS of one of his presentations. :^)
